Sharing the heartwarming story of Chaya on the occasion of #WorldMilkDay. Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of #TVSMotorCompany and #SundaramClaytonLimited, has been supporting rural women through creation of self-help groups, establishing loan linkage to the SHGs and providing the women with income generation programs. Nearly 11,000 women earn a livelihood through livestock with SST’s support. SST runs a comprehensive livestock program that trains its employees at the #NationalDairyDevelopmentBoard (NDDB). SST has a strategic collaboration with Shreeja Mahila Milk Producer Company Ltd, the world's largest women-owned milk producing company based in Tirupati. The primary objective of this collaboration is to establish a fair and transparent milk procurement system while ensuring the welfare and interests of dairy farmers by providing them access to organised markets. #TVSSST #TVSM #WomenEmpowerment #RuralEmpowerment #WorldMilkDay
I was born and raised in Mumbai and worked there as a nurse. I was earning 25,000 rupees a month. My husband worked in a call centre. Then COVID happened and he lost his job. We thought, instead of struggling with whatever little I was earning, we should return to our roots in Gulani and take care of our land here. This decision turned our lives upside down. We had only 4 acres of land and hardly any source of income. Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) gave a new lease to our lives. When I connected with their representatives for guidance, they introduced me to their Bhakti self-help group. For the first time in my life, I learnt what cattle rearing is and how it can put us back on our feet again! I started my new journey by buying four cows from a 1.8 lakh loan I took. Slowly my dairy business picked up and I was able to pay back every penny. Today, I tend to eight cows that give me a minimum income of 20,000 rupees a month. At each step of my journey, SST’s support has guided me. From helping me with bank loans to ensuring my cows are in top shape and fed well. I’ve set my mind on constructing an open shed for my cows for more operational efficiency and expansion. — Chaya Khaladkar, Gulani block, Khed district, Pune, Maharashtra #SST #TVSSST #SrinivasanServicesTrust #WomenInBusiness #COVID #Medicine #Nurses #RuralEmpowerment #Rural #Livestock #Cattle #Farming
